During inspection and testing, it is important that other people know you are carrying out inspection and testing, particularly other workers on site. However, this can be done by labelling the identify switchgear and control gear when carrying out inspection and testing. Hence, this simply means ensuring that no-one accidentally switches on or attempts to use the installation currently undergoing inspection and testing.
Although these measures may seem a little extreme, it is worth bearing in mind that the installation has not been verified as being safe so still needs to be treated as a potentially dangerous installation. Nevertheless, inspection and testing should only be carried out by competent engineers with relevant experiences and qualifications.
Do I Need Periodic Inspection?
The health and safety at work act 1974 and electricity at work regulations 1989 require precautions to be taken against the risk death or injury from electricity during work activities. This applies in all work places. Periodic inspection and testing can ensure you comply with this legislation.
The main aim of a periodic inspection is to provide an engineer confirm everything is in a satisfactory condition and can be used safely.
Periodic Inspection & Testing Is Carried Out For:
- The safety of people and livestock against the effects of electric shock and burns.
- Protection against damage to property by fire and heat arising from an installation defect
- Ensuring the installation is not damaged to impair safety
